The Domaine Saint-Joseph : an exhibition of the paintings by François Aubrun

At the foot of the Mont Sainte-Victoire, the Domaine Saint-Joseph is exceptionally opening its doors to allow us to rediscover a major artist of the second half of the 20th century : François Aubrun, “painter of light and silence,” who passed away in 2009.
The Domaine Saint-Joseph was originally established by the Jesuits as a sanctuary for reflection and contemplation, in the hills of Le Tholonet, facing the Mont Sainte-Victoire. World-famous thanks to Cezanne's painting (View of the Domaine Saint-Joseph, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York), this fifty-acre estate remains one of the region's hidden treasures.
This summer, exceptionally, it opens its doors to the public to host a retrospective of the painter François Aubrun, who occupied the premises between 1963 and 2009, and produced most of his work here – over a thousand paintings, drawings and watercolours. Regularly exhibited in France, Europe and North America, this unique body of work, on the borderline between Impressionism and Abstraction, is to be discovered for the first time in the artist's private world, amidst the landscapes that inspired him for over fifty years.
Strolling among the panoramas and majestic remains of the estate (notably the former chapel where Aubrun had set up his studio), we discover the different stages of an intense, sensitive work by one of the last great naturalist painters of the late 20th and the early 21st centuries.

Bilingual exhibition booklet (French/English) distributed free of charge at the entrance / Bookshop along the exhibition route.
