Bastide du Jas de Bouffan

Reopening on 28 June 2025.
The bastide of Jas de Bouffan and its park are open to you for visits to discover what this family property was for the painter: a place to live and his first creative studio.
The Bastide was built between 1730 and 1940. The property was bought in 1859 by Paul Cezanne's father, now a banker, from one of his creditors for 65,000 francs. In the large salon on the ground floor, Paul Cezanne painted twelve large compositions directly on the walls between 1860 and 1870 (which were detached between 1912 and the 1960s). Then in 1881, M. Cezanne père had the roof redone and a small studio built under the roof for his son. In September 1899, two years after Madame Cezanne's death, Paul and his two sisters sold Jas de Bouffan to Louis Granel, an agricultural engineer from Carcassonne. In 1994, the last owner, André Corsy, sold the property to the town, subject to usufruct, with the exception of the farm. Since the end of 2002, the manor house and grounds, which are listed as Historic Monuments, have been the property of the City of Aix-en-Provence.

The Jas de Bouffan mansion is one of the 3 Cezanne sites, along with the Lauves studio and the Bibémus quarries.

The site has small left-luggage lockers but cannot accept large items of luggage.
