Archives nationales d'Outre Mer

The mission of the Archives nationales d'outre-mer (ANOM) is to preserve, communicate and promote archives relating to the former French colonies from the 16th to the 20th century.
The Archives nationales d'outre-mer (ANOM) is a department with national competence, attached to the interministerial service of the Archives de France (Ministry of Culture) based in Aix-en-Provence since 1966. Its mission is to preserve, communicate and promote archives relating to former French colonies from the 16th to the 20th century.

A key resource and repository for understanding the history of colonization and decolonization, the ANOM holds two major collections with different administrative and archival histories: the archives of the ministries in charge of the French colonial empire from the 17th to the 20th century, and the archives transferred in part from the former colonies and Algeria when they became independent.
They also preserve private archives, and house a map library, an icon library and a specialized library.
The ANOM also offers a cultural program, organizes visits and events during national events such as the European Heritage Days, and welcomes schoolchildren throughout the year.

Consultation of the archives is free of charge, and requires registration during opening hours.
