Elegant yet easy-going nectars, just like their birthplace, the wines of the Aix-en-Provence region have long enjoyed a place in the sun. They are now also making their way into the hearts of wine lovers.
Four appellations allow them to be recognised: Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence, Côtes de Provence, Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire and Palette. Just hearing their names takes us to the heart of beautiful estates and châteaux, to the cellars where red and rosé wines (mainly) are made, and to the counters where winegrowers with sing-song accents invite us to taste a glass of their production.
From the shores of the Etang de Berre to the foot of the Sainte-Victoire mountain, the scenery changes, revealing all the facets of these southern wines.
The Aix-en-Provence region, the first Provençal destination to be awarded the “Vignobles & Découvertes” label, brings together 34 communes, 4 AOPs and 2 IGPs.
Awarded in May 2013, renewed in 2019 and again in 2023, the Vignobles & Découvertes label marks the commitment of a network of service providers to offer a quality service to their customers. This commitment covers welcome, availability and advice.
Accommodation providers, restaurateurs, winegrowers, cultural and heritage sites, events and leisure activities, all members of this label, await you and offer you the opportunity to experience wine, gastronomy and culture throughout the year.
4 AOPs at the heart of the Label
AOP Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence
A Vineyard between Sea and Mountain
To discover the Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence is to explore four different terroirs between the sea and the mountains, all within a single appellation.
- The Mediterranean terroir is located around the Etang de Berre, with maritime influences that soften the ardour of the sun.
- The Mistral terroir is the closest to the Rhône River.
- The Coteaux terroir is the heart of the appellation, where the vines form perspectives that guide the eye towards the Provençal bastides.
- The High Plateaux terroir is located to the east of the appellation, with its vines clinging to the northern slope of the mountain dear to Cézanne.

AOP Palette
Vineyards on the land of Cezanne
Like a beacon in the Aix region, the Sainte-Victoire mountain stands majestically and minerally. On the south side, at the foot of the limestone scree and cliffs, there are red soils, where dinosaur eggs are sometimes found, which welcome the vines of the Côtes de Provence and, for some years now, the Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire. A terroir denomination that consecrates red and rosé wines produced according to very strict specifications. Then there is Palette, one of the oldest, but also one of the smallest appellations in France with four estates.
